Thilo Reich is an interdisciplinary architect and artist based in Berlin (DE). His idiosyncratic designs isolate and amplify commonplace urban building materials, drawing attention to patterns and structures that have become so ingrained in the fabric of our urban landscapes that they often go unnoticed. Using found and discarded materials, Reich highlights the under-recognised beauty housed within these elements–concrete paving stones, brick structures, street lights–by showcasing them in small series productions in which he slices into, polishes, casts, reworks and juxtaposes the materials, highlighting their inherent beauty and revealing histories of production and culture hidden within. Though conceptual in approach and rigour, Reich’s bespoke designs remain formally elegant and striking in their precise craftsmanship.

Thilo Reich was born in Stuttgart, Germany. He studied architecture at the Technische Universität Berlin, and worked in the offices of Foster and Partners (London), HPP Laage und Partner (Stuttgart), Die Baupiloten (Berlin) and Delugan Meissl Associated Architects (Vienna). In 2013 he founded his own studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In 2019 he won the Frame awards for “Best Use of Material” and the people’s choice award for “Best Execution” for his Berlin Bar in Moscow, Russia.
